Your Mobile Website

Your Website is Now Mobile, But How Does It Look?

We just thought we would point out these statistics that just came out this quarter.

47% of all local businesses are searched through mobile devices.
93% of all local businesses on page one don’t have a mobile version of their site.

As you may already know, this past year we began implementing a new mobile version of everyone’s website, at no extra charge.  Generally, this would have cost you anywhere from $300 to $500 from many other website developers.

For those of you who have not checked your mobile site out on a smart phone, allow me to explain what you will find there.  Regardless of the color scheme, fancy graphics and pretty design of your website, the mobile version of your site generally will have a white background with black text.  The pictures are crisp and clean and so is your web video if we have developed one for your site.  The navigation buttons are relatively larger, using Castlewood icons as a means to convey their destination.  All of this is done as a way to deal with the smaller confines and display area of a mobile device.

The key to design for mobile devices is usability rather than aesthetics.  And so to make your site load faster and to be easier to use, something has to go.  Most often this is the clever designs and pretty or flashy graphics.

The system that we have incorporated instantly detects whether or not the person coming to your site is coming from a desktop / laptop computer or a mobile device.  Originally the system we set up was set to display your mobile website as a miniature version of your regular site the first time a mobile user visited.  They then had the option to click on a link at the bottom to view the mobile version and anytime they visited after that, the mobile version was automatically displayed.

Since its inception, we have reconsidered the actions of when to display a mobile version verses the regular version.  Castlewood has decided to go back and reset all of our clients sites so that the mobile version is automatically displayed even for the first time visitors.  They will still have the option to switch to your regular version at any time.  However, if you have a preference for this displaying your regular version first, please let us know and we will be more than happy to switch your site back to the original display settings.
